My father my Hero !

As a child I always enjoyed accompanying my father to his clinic. I loved the attention I got from his staff and his patients. Some of them would bring lollipops and chocolates for ‘doc – sahibs’ daughter and hand it to one of the staff, who in turn would pass it on to me.

I would sit next to my father and observe how he handled his patients. He took care of not just their physical problems but also their emotional ones . Problem one was facing at home either because of an interfering mother-in-law or an overbearing wife, a worthless son or an unreliable business partner.

I never had ever seen a more patient and empathetic listener than my father. All the while his hands and his mind were working in tandem to diagnose the illness of his patient, he would be all ears to them, giving suggestions only when asked for. He knew all his patients and their problems personally.

His approach cured majority of their illness even before they would leave his clinic with the prescription in their hand. I would be the proud recipient of a lot of blessings by virtue of being his child.

I had decided at a very young age that I wanted to follow his footsteps, not just in profession but in his approach towards people. The decision strengthened more so after this particular incident when one evening an old man walked into his clinic with a goat. When the people tried to stop him , saying it wasn’t a veterinary clinic, he turned to my father and said that if doctor sahib could cure him why not his goat who was like a child to him and his only family.

My father tried dissuading as well but to no good. Ultimately he asked the old man some questions about the goat and asked his helper to give some medicine.

The next day the old man was back with a big basket of fruits and boxes of sweets showering my father with blessings as his ‘daughter’ was cured. I felt so proud of him that moment.

After so many years and meeting so many people I am yet to find one like my father. Still am very proud of him and he continues to be my ideal .

The Insatiable ….

Learning is not what we get just from our books. It is happening all the time and we just need to be vigilant and open minded.
Mother Nature is the best teacher but we ignorant humans pay absolutely no attention to her .

What does Learning actually mean? Now this is tricky…isn’t it . Each one of us has our own convenient definition for it.

According to psychologists , "Learning is an exercise of constructing personal Knowledge that requires the learner to be mentally active rather than passive" , but according to me... Learning is that which brings about a permanent change in us , in our behavior and goes into our ‘Memory ’ .

Big words memory and all….uh?

Let’s not get into the technicalities. The one thing that I want to suggest here is, ensure that your hunger for knowledge is never satisfied. Keep looking around for more and more.

You have lots to learn from the bright sunshine after a dust storm, or a little birdie feeding its babies in the nest or……… Carry on !
